DP World, the celebrated terminal operator rooted in Dubai, and the Indonesian powerhouse, Maspion Group, have embarked on a gripping endeavor. They’re building an innovative container terminal in Gresik, a bustling corner of East Java. This development promises to amplify East Java’s reputation as a pivotal trade point and foster connections between Indonesian corporations and its local and international customer base.
The corporate alliance has given birth to a new entity: the DP World Maspion East Java. This subsidiary company aims to manage an advanced international container terminal. Planned to have the capacity to handle up to 3 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), the venture is top-tier in its perspective and design.
A Billion-Dollar Deal Forging Ahead
In March 2021, an agreement to invest about $1.2 billion towards the terminal’s construction was cemented, setting the journey in motion. As the terminal rises from the ground, visions of delivering comprehensive supply chain solutions, a core aim of DP World, come closer to the horizon.
A Comprehensive Approach to Infrastructure Development
A crucial part of this strategy involves establishing an extensive industrial and logistics park. This park will nest next to the container terminal, opening up new business opportunities. Eventually occupying an area of 110 hectares, this place is designed with a forward-thinking eye on future expansion.
DP World’s group chairman and CEO, Ahmed bin Sulayem, highlighted the impact of the ambitious project. He said it would “bolster East Java’s position as a key trade and logistics gateway”. Sulayem also outlined DP World’s strategy of expanding its global ports and logistics network to provide holistic solutions and enhance supply chain resilience.
Fulfilling the Vision: Indonesia’s Golden Generation
The project’s significance stretches beyond the confines of business. Alim Markus, Chairman and CEO of Maspion Group, lauded it as a testament to the potential of strong alliances. He emphasized that with government support, the unison of two reputable companies can contribute to building East Java’s infrastructure.
According to Markus, Maspion Group and DP World’s venture aligns with President Joko Widodo’s economic aspirations for Indonesia. The project embodies the concept of the ‘Golden Generation 2045’, propelling Indonesia’s march towards heightened economic growth.
Together, DP World and Maspion Group are forging ahead with the development of an immense container terminal and integrated logistics park. Set against the backdrop of a thriving East Java, this enterprise epitomizes the power of strategic partnerships and shared visions. Ultimately, it will shape the future of Indonesia’s burgeoning trade and logistics sector.
