The Drive Towards a Sustainable Future
MISC has unveiled plans for its latest venture in collaboration with Petroleum Gas Berhad (PGB), following the initial partnership that kick-started in 2012. This fruitful partnership previously led to the successful launch of FSU Tenaga Satu and FSU Tenaga Empat at the LNG Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang, situated in Melaka.
The continuation of this project symbolizes yet another milestone achieved by the dynamic partnership between MISC and PGB. In the spotlight, this time is MISC’s LNG Carrier, Puteri Delima Satu, which is being repositioned and redeveloped as a Floating Storage Unit (FSU), solely committed to this new pursuit.
A Strategic Shift Towards Lower Emissions
Limiting emissions while promoting operational efficiency, the FSU is expected to be powered externally from shore sources—an innovation that leverages technology and sustainable practices. As per tentative timelines, this FSU is projected to be commercially functional by the second quarter of 2025. The project is couched in a 20-year contract; however, a potential extension in the future based on mutual consent is something both parties have considered.
Leveraging Existing Assets, Ensuring Shareholder Returns
As per Hazrin Hasan, it’s a strategic redeployment of current assets. MISC’s Vice President of Gas Assets and solutions opined, “The reconversion of our existing assets, clubbed with our experiences from operating FSU Tenaga Satu and FSU Tenaga Empat, caters not only to a potential revenue business opportunity but also leads to increased shareholder returns.” He appreciated the trust from PGB and PLNG2SB and reinforced MISC’s commitment to Petronas in promoting energy transition in Malaysia.
Celebrating A New Era of Collaboration
This forward-looking venture is a testament to the enduring aspiration of MISC and PGB in nurturing sustainable energy transformation in Malaysia. The repositioning of Puteri Delima Satu, the project’s FSU, is sure to become a cornerstone in their expedition towards the envisioned greener future. By harmonizing their expertise for creating environmentally‐conscious solutions, MISC and PGB are undoubtedly charting an illustrious path in the journey of the industry’s modernization.
