The journey of the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Gimi is estimated to span close to 60 days. This timeframe incorporates anticipated refueling stoppages in Mauritius before it navigates around the illustrious Cape of Good Hope and further on in Namibia before it reaches the final destination.
From Voyage to Value Generation
Once docked, the FLNG Gimi will be harnessed and linked to a central hub, a significant milestone that is predicted to establish a consistent stream of cash inflows as per the terms of the 20-year Lease and Operate Agreement on the GTA field. Built from the legacy Moss LNG transport ship dating back to 1975, Gimi boasts an impressive storage capacity of 125,000 cubic meters, making it a marvel of marine engineering.
An Integration of Innovation and Utility
What truly sets it apart is its cutting-edge design, tailored to provide 20 years of uninterrupted on-site performance, devoid of dry-docking requirements. It comes equipped with an impressive liquefaction generation capacity of 2.7 million tonnes each year. Its operational district is planned to be just off the coast, in water depths of around 30 meters.
Laurels and Expectations of the Voyage
Golar’s CEO, Karl-Fredrik Staubo, expressed his gratification about the successful conversion of Gimi into an FLNG vessel. He extended his gratitude towards Seatrium, Black, and Veatch, among others, for their instrumental role and cooperation throughout the process. With the imminent initiation of the Gimi’s operations, Golar is all set to enjoy a two-fold augmentation of its FLNG fleet, thereby pushing the total installed liquefaction capability to an impressive 5.1 million tonnes per annum.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the project, Staubo underscored Golar’s commitment towards paving the way for the profitable utilization of significant proven gas fields. This is achieved through their unparalleled operational record, competitive capital expenses per tonne of liquefaction capacity, and one of the best emission efficiency ratings in the industry.
Golar stands at the forefront of transforming the global LNG landscape, leveraging its position as a leading independent owner and operator of FLNG units. The company looks ahead to a continued long-term collaboration with BP, Kosmos, and the national oil and gas establishments of Mauritania and Senegal, with the operational FLNG Gimi playing a crucial role in their mutual successes.
