European shortsea container carrier A2B-online has recently announced the placement of an order at Sedef Shipyard in Turkey. This order consists of two 650 TEU eco-designed containerships. The Dutch-based company, which currently operates a fleet of seven boxships, emphasized that the new vessels have been meticulously designed with an environmental focus.
These state-of-the-art ships are equipped with cutting-edge technology aimed at significantly reducing CO2 emissions, by an impressive 95%. The vessels are set to boast a multi-fuel methanol propulsion system, as well as shore power and battery capacity. This will enable them to operate with zero emissions during port and inland water operations.
Collaboration for a Greener Future
A2B-online has teamed up with Hamburg-based design and engineering firm, Technolog Services, for the development of these innovative vessels. Although the exact price of the duo remains undisclosed, they are expected to be operational by the end of 2024, serving routes between Moerdijk in the Netherlands and Immingham in the United Kingdom.

The cargo hold in these vessels is designed to be significantly larger compared to the company’s existing fleet.
