Gasum, a recognized name in the gas sector, has accomplished its inaugural transfer of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from one vessel to another, known as ship-to-ship bunkering. The beneficiary of this brilliant enterprise was MSC Cruises, who received the fuel for their luxurious vessel, the MSC Euribia. The notable event took place on October 24 in the bustling port city of Hamburg, as unveiled in a company’s LinkedIn post.
Gasum worthily used the Kairos, its devoted delivery vessel to ensure a seamless bunkering operation.
Charting A Greener Course for Hamburg
Gregoire Hartig, an acclaimed Marine LNG sales and business development executive at Gasum, emphasized that this feat propels Hamburg into the league of forward-thinking ports. They can now cater to the shipping sector with LNG bunkering facilities. This turn of events doesn’t only boost the city’s profile, but it also paves the way for LNG’s full decarbonization potential.
“LNG has evolved as the ruling alternative fuel choice at present. Most of the significant bunkering locations are well-equipped for its supply. The role that bio- and synthetic LNG will play in the operation of LNG-fueled ships in the future is one to keep an eye on.” Hartig elucidated in the post.

For now, LNG remains the top alternative fuel option with an established supply network spanning across almost all primary bunkering locations. It is predicted that the success of LNG-dependent ships in the future will be directly influenced by the availability of bio- and synthetic LNG in these locations.
