Boluda Towage Sets Sail into Egyptian Waters

In January 2024, Boluda Towage began towage operations at the Egyptian Abu Qir's container terminal, deploying three tugs. Vicente Boluda Fos, President of Boluda Corporación Marítima, expressed, "Abu Qir is a thriving port, aligning perfectly with our division's ambitions. Our expansion into Egypt and the Middle East represents a significant move in bolstering global activities. We take pride in meeting the port authority and container terminal's demands and will be supported by an onshore team in Abu Qir." Boluda Towage's initial towage fleet in Abu Qir comprises three tugs, each boasting a 75-tonne bollard pull and firefighting capabilities. The tractor tugs VB Amon and VB Horus were procured from Sanmar Shipyards, while the Ramparts 2500-W ASD tug VB Ahmose was acquired from Med Marine Shipyards.

In a move that signals a significant expansion of global activities, Boluda Towage has set sail into the bustling waters of the Egyptian Abu Qir’s container terminal. With the commencement of towage operations in January 2024, the company’s three tugs have embarked on a mission that not only underscores their commitment to growth but also mirrors the thriving dynamism of the port itself. As Vicente Boluda Fos, the President of Boluda Corporación Marítima, aptly puts it, “Abu Qir is a port in full motion, and the port developments perfectly fit with the ambitions of the Boluda Towage Division.”

The strategic move to establish a foothold in Egypt and the Middle East underscores Boluda Towage’s dedication to bolstering and broadening its global presence. Notably, the company’s foray into Egypt is not merely symbolic but is backed by practical measures – an onshore team operating from an office in Abu Qir will provide steadfast support to the towage operations. Furthermore, the choice of vessels is not arbitrary; the three tugs deployed in the port of Abu Qir are equipped with formidable capabilities. With each tug boasting 75 tonnes bollard pull and firefighting prowess, Boluda Towage has ensured that its fleet is well-prepared to navigate and respond to the demands of the bustling port.

The acquisition of the tractor tugs VB Amon and VB Horus from Sanmar Shipyards, both based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar Tractor-Z 2500SX, and the Ramparts 2500-W ASD tug VB Ahmose from Med Marine Shipyards stands as a testament to Boluda Towage’s meticulous approach to vessel selection. By carefully curating a fleet that combines robust capabilities with cutting-edge technology, the company has positioned itself to not only meet but exceed the expectations of the port authority and container terminal. This move not only underscores the company’s ability to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of the maritime industry but also solidifies its status as a proactive and forward-thinking player in the global towage landscape.

In the maritime world, where each maneuver and decision carry significant weight, Boluda Towage’s expansion into the Egyptian waters represents a calculated yet bold step. As the company’s tugs navigate the bustling waters of Abu Qir, they carry not just cargo but the aspirations of a company that is unapologetically dedicated to charting new horizons and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the maritime industry.
