The Champ is Here: Dolphin Drilling Takes the Lead

Dolphin Drilling, the Norwegian semisub owner champion has officially outbid its competitors to clinch the top spot in Oil India’s rig tender. The company, backed by renowned industry personality Øystein Stray Spetalen, was acknowledged as the superior bidder thanks to its submission of the least expensive bid for a guaranteed 14-month contract.

Diving into the Deal: Dolphin Drilling’s Upcoming Endeavors

With the grant of the letter of award, Dolphin Drilling is all set to embark on its forthcoming drilling campaign. This is, of course, contingent on finalizing a contractual agreement. The company has estimated the start of this project in the third quarter of 2024. The executive team at Dolphin Drilling is gleaming with enthusiasm at the prospect of these exciting times that lay ahead.

Reviving the Majestic Borgland Dolphin

The deal, inclusive of a possible seven-month extension, presents an opportunity for Dolphin Drilling to bring back the majestic Borgland Dolphin. Famously built in 1977 and upgraded subsequently, the rig has been sitting idle in a smart stack. This reactivation heralds a pivotal point in the history of the maritime giant.

Behind the Dolphin Fleet

With a fleet comprising enhanced Aker H3 semis of the fourth and fifth generation, Dolphin Drilling is no stranger to the rigging game. Adding to the company’s already impressive fleet, in June, the company confirmed the acquisition of two Transocean rigs. The Paul B Loyd Jr, built in 1987, and the Transocean Leader were secured in a deal that topped the charts at $61.5 million.

This huge victory in the Oil India rig tender and the considerable expansions of the fleet mark a promising journey for Dolphin Drilling in its quest to remain at the top and continue drilling the deepest secrets of the seas.
