Setting Sail with Containerized Battery Solutions

Corvus Energy, a leading innovator in energy storage solutions, has broken new ground in maritime power with the introduction of its containerized battery room solution, the Corvus BOB. This groundbreaking product has received Type Approval from DNV, a global quality assurance, and risk management company, making it a suitable choice for various marine applications.

The Corvus BOB, available in both 10-foot and 20-foot ISO high-cube container sizes, offers a standardized and plug-and-play design for seamless integration with existing ship systems. It comprises an A60 battery room container that houses batteries, a battery management system, HVAC, Thermal Runaway Exhaust, and firefighting and detection systems.

Compact, Scalable, and Safe Maritime Battery Solutions

Corvus Energy has engineered the containerized solution to provide a secure, streamlined, and space-efficient option for accommodating batteries onboard ships, whether placed on deck or below. The solution’s modularity enables multiple containers to be combined, resulting in a scalable approach suited to the vessel’s energy needs and adapting seamlessly to various ship sizes and power demands.

Furthermore, the standard shipping container dimensions simplify transportation, storage, and installation processes. As Corvus notes, this feature enables a significant reduction in off-hire and installation time since the battery room undergoes complete testing before delivery to the shipyard.

Easing the Classification Process and Enabling Sustainable Maritime Transportation

Halvard Hauso, Chief Commercial Officer at Corvus Energy, emphasizes the advantages of pre-approved battery room solutions for ship integrators, yards, and owners looking to minimize complications. He says, “With a pre-approved battery room solution, you ease the classification process, you have limited interfaces, and all surrounding structures and systems can be prepared before delivery.”

Hauso also believes that containerized solutions will play a crucial role in driving the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable maritime transportation. Their scalability and potential for new business models such as “Power-by-the-hour” and leasing options make them a compelling prospect for the industry.

Expanding the Corvus Energy Portfolio

The Corvus BOB system is designed to be used with the Corvus Orca Energy marine battery system, and the company already has several orders lined up for the BOB with delivery set for 2023. Moving forward, Corvus plans to broaden its container range, incorporating additional products from its extensive battery portfolio.

With the successful development and Type Approval of the Corvus BOB, Corvus Energy is well-positioned to help usher in an era of sustainable, efficient, and versatile maritime power solutions. The innovative containerized battery room solution is poised to become a game-changer in the industry, making it easier for ship owners and operators to transition to cleaner power sources and minimize their environmental impact.
